Why you need eSIM Installation

It is important to note the installation process of an eSIM in your iPhone is crucial before you go on any trip. With the emerging eSIM technology, iPhones now offer seamless connectivity across different regions and locations. If you have an eSIM card you can switch your carriers easily and stay connected with your friends and family no matter where you are.

By installing an eSIM card on your iPhone or Android device you can access the different options for network connectivity available on the carrier of your choice. You can better understand the data plans available to you, and experience the full range of benefits that are available to eSIM card users.

How to install an eSIM

If you are interested in learning how to install an eSIM, you are probably already aware of the power of an eSIM, and have a device that is compatible with an eSIM.

If you already have an iOS device that offers eSIM compatibility you will find the installation process quite simple. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1

Call the carrier and ask for details regarding eSIM activation or buy a ICY travel eSim. In either case you will be provided a QR code or an activation pin that will be used to set up your eSIM profile, either through email, WhatsApp or within the app. You can save it as a Photo or take a screenshot.

Step 2

Now that you have the QR or code, you need to go to your iPhone’s settings. Click on Cellular or Mobile Service. This will lead to the option of Add Cellular Plan or Add eSIM. This is where the code will come in handy. Click on Use QR Code > Click Open Photos in the bottom and select the QR code you saved, iPhone will scan it automatically from the image.

If you are a ICY user, watch this video to get a better understanding.

Step 3

Once you have scanned a QR or entered the code, you can now activate the eSIM. For iOS 16 and lower, you will need to restart your iPhone to see if the changes you made were saved.

Step 4

You can manage your eSIM, and data plans through the settings (Setting > Cellular). You can also switch between your sims and decide what kind of data plan and cellular setting you are interested in using.

Step 5

When you are travelling with an eSIM, make sure to have data roaming enabled and make sure to label your eSIM as ‘travel’ or ‘ICY’ to better differentiate from other SIM cards. You can use up to 10 eSIMs, and 2 can be active at the same time. So you can keep your primary SIM card, if an eSIM is required at any point, you can simply turn off the line for one and activate the other. Try not to delete any because you might come across connectivity issues on your travels and it is better to have both options available.

Troubleshooting eSIM on an iPhone

So, what happens if you install a eSIM on your iPhone but you don’t get to experience seamless connectivity like you hoped? Well chances are you just need some troubleshooting and your eSIM will be ready to use.

A common issue that most people run into is not receiving a QR code from their carrier for the purpose of eSIM activation. In that case you can generate a new QR code by requesting it from you. They can also provide you alternative activation instructions if you explain to them that you are facing trouble with the QR code.

Another issue that you might face is glitches in the eSIM activation process. In that case make sure you added the details correctly, and that you have access to the internet. If the issue persists, you will need to call your carrier and request assistance.
