The best eSIM for Europe is a regional plan if you’re crossing borders, and a country plan if you’re staying in one place. A Europe plan keeps you connected as you move between countries on one eSIM; a single-country plan is about half the price per GB. In our check, 10 GB for 30 days across Europe cost $15–35.99 on fixed-data plans, and a week of unlimited cost $19.99–27.50.
ICY SIM is our own product and it’s included here, judged on the same criteria. Competitor prices were checked on 8 October 2026 and ours on 14 October 2026; they change often, so every figure is dated.
- Several countries: a Europe plan — one eSIM, no swapping at borders. Cheapest 10 GB in our check: Ubigi $15, then ICY SIM $22 and Nomad $23.
- One country: a country plan is cheaper — e.g. 5 GB for $6 in France, Italy, Spain or Germany (ICY SIM).
- The UK and Switzerland aren’t in the EU. Check they’re on a plan’s country list — our Europe plan includes both.
- Iceland, Turkey and most of the Balkans are often outside Europe plans — ours too. Add a cheap country plan for those legs.
- Two weeks of maps, messages and social media usually needs 5–10 GB.

Europe plan or country plans: which is cheaper?
| Trip | Country plans | Europe plan (ICY SIM) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 days in Italy, ~5 GB | Italy 5 GB: $6 | 5 GB: $12 |
| 2 weeks: Paris + Amsterdam, ~10 GB | France 5 GB + Netherlands 5 GB: $12 | 10 GB: $22 |
| 3 weeks, 5 countries by train, ~10 GB | Five plans, one per border | 10 GB: $22, one eSIM |
Country plans are cheaper per GB, but each border means another eSIM to install and switch to. For one or two countries, country plans win on price. From three countries up, a Europe plan is simpler, and you don’t lose leftover data each time you cross a border. All prices are ICY SIM’s from our destinations page, checked 14 October 2026.
Does a Europe eSIM cover the UK, Switzerland and the Balkans?
Not always, so check the country list before you buy. The UK and Switzerland aren’t in the EU, and some Europe plans leave one or both out. Iceland, Turkey and the non-EU Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia) are missing from many Europe plans.
| Our Europe plan includes (30) | Not included: use a country plan |
|---|---|
| Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom | Iceland (5 GB $10), Turkey (5 GB $5), Serbia, Albania and Montenegro (5 GB $8 each), Ukraine and Moldova (5 GB $5–6) |

How much data do you need for 2 weeks in Europe?
| Trip | Typical use | Plan size |
|---|---|---|
| A long weekend in one city | Maps, transport apps, messaging | 1–3 GB |
| One week, two or three cities | + photos, social media | 3–5 GB |
| Two weeks across several countries | + some video, train bookings, hotspot now and then | 5–10 GB |
| Two weeks or more, working remotely or streaming | Video calls, laptop hotspot | 20 GB or unlimited |
Hotels, cafés and most trains have Wi-Fi, so big downloads can wait. If you run low, topping up is usually cheaper than buying a bigger plan up front. More in how much data you need abroad.
Unlimited eSIM for Europe: is it worth it?
Only if you use a lot every day. A week of unlimited cost $19.99 on Maya Mobile’s global plan, $27 on Airalo and $27.50 on Holafly in our check. That’s more than 10 GB of fixed data on most providers, and most travellers use less. Watch the small print: Airalo gives 3 GB a day at full speed, Maya 5 GB, and Holafly caps hotspot at 1 GB a day.
Live in the EU? You may not need an eSIM at all
Under the EU’s “Roam like at home” rules, people with an EU/EEA mobile plan pay no extra roaming charges when travelling within the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; Ukraine and Moldova were added on 1 January 2026, and the rules now run until 2032. They don’t cover the UK or Switzerland, and your operator can apply a fair-use limit. If you’re visiting from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia or anywhere else, your carrier will usually charge a daily fee in Europe. See what roaming really costs.
The options, one by one
Ubigi: cheapest Europe data in our check
$15 for 10 GB / 30 days across 38 countries. Backed by Transatel (NTT Group). Downsides: strict refunds (only if no data was used), and more 1-star reviews mentioning activation problems than some rivals.
ICY SIM: includes the UK and Switzerland (our product)
$22 for 10 GB / 30 days across 30 countries including the UK and Switzerland, from $2 for 1 GB. Hotspot allowed; validity starts on first use. Country plans from $6 for 5 GB if you’re staying in one place. Downsides: no unlimited plan, Iceland and the Balkans aren’t in the Europe plan, a 24-hour refund window for unused eSIMs, and far fewer reviews than the big names.
Nomad and Airalo: mid-priced, well-known
Nomad was $23 for 10 GB (35 countries). Airalo was $24 (EUconnect, 28 countries) or $31 (Eurolink, around 40 countries), and both also sell unlimited plans. Good apps and big review bases; neither was the cheapest.
Holafly and Maya Mobile: unlimited
Holafly’s Europe plan is unlimited by the day ($27.50 for 7 days, 33 countries). Maya Mobile’s single global plan ($19.99 for 7 days) covers Europe and much of the world. Both suit heavy users; both are poor value for light ones.
Saily: strong reviews, priciest fixed data here
$35.99 for 10 GB / 30 days in our check, the highest of the group. It has strong Trustpilot reviews and an optional US number add-on.
How to set up a Europe eSIM

- Buy a Europe plan, or a country plan for a single-country trip.
- Install it at home on Wi-Fi; validity starts when you first use data in Europe.
- When you land, set the eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for the eSIM only.
- Crossing a border? A Europe plan switches networks on its own; just keep data roaming on.
